Irish Film Board Shorts

Jameson Dublin International Film festival is delighted to present a showcase of new work in the short film format. This exciting programme will feature of both established and emerging short filmmakers and the films diverse range of subjects and high standards of technique and style have already been recognised both in Ireland and internationally.

1. Frankie Director: Darren Thornton Frankie is fifteen and preparing for fatherhood. He is determined that he is going to be the best Dad ever, but as his day goes on, he starts to realise how difficult this will be for him. (12mins)

2. The Red Ball Director: Alan Holly

A story about a purple boy, a green ball, a red ball, a green girl, a red girl and a purple boy. (3mins)

3. Bua Director: Sonya Gildea Within this young girl’s story, there comes a single moment of human darkness. A fragile and disturbing turning point appears between her grandfather and this young girl. The grandfather is, above all, every man, who finally betrays even himself, and in that moment takes us fleetingly to a darker place because of it. 5. Rola Saor Director: Cathal Watters

A chance photograph that Marc takes of Ruth on the beach, sparks off a new found interest in photographing each other. Their mundane relationship takes a turn until the local pharmacist calls… he needs to see them regarding their photographs.

6. An Créat úr Director: Peter Foott

An Créatúr spans the first fifteen years of Conor Buckley’s life. A childhood prank leaves Conor paralysed by guilt; forcing him to correct his own mistake the only way he knows how…( 24mins)

7. Basket Case Director: Owen O’Neill

Ambrose is walking calmly through a biblical storm, to buy among other things, a dead pig for his dying wife. But what is he building for her? A dark, twisted, comic tale of love, devotion, death and debt, set in small town Ireland. ( 16mins)

8. New Boy Director Steph Green

Based on a short story by Roddy Doyle, this poignant and comedic short film deftly captures the experience of being the new boy in school through the eyes of Joseph, a nine year old African boy.( 11mins)
